THE SCHOOL OF COUNSELLING APPROACH

Learning experientially is a cornerstone of how we will help you become proficient in counselling skills. We do this through a variety of engaging exercises and discussions. We pride ourselves in using a range of interactive learning tools; this allows all learners irrespective of background a chance to develop their potential.    No learner is left unsupported and to achieve the qualification we provide regular tutorials with the course tutor. We are committed to seeing all our learners achieve their qualification. ​ We recognise that many students are returning to study after having a break from education. This may feel daunting but we recognise the challenges and your tutors are highly skilled in supporting your return to education.  ​

CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills

This qualification is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge, skills and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.

Who is this for?

Those starting the first level of training as a professional counsellor. Those who want to learn counselling skills in other professional or helping roles. Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development.

The Benefits

This qualification could lead to employment or increase employability for those whose role is to support others in e.g. health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, other helping roles.

Previous experience

Level 2 CPCAB qualifications are for candidates with no previous training or experience who are looking to start their counselling training journey.

AN INTRODUCTION TO
COUNSELLING SKILLS

The CPCAB level 2 qualification in Counselling Skills is designed to give you the underpinning knowledge, skills, and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.

This qualification is for you if:

  • You want to start the first level of training as a professional counsellor

  • You want to learn counselling skills for other professional or helping role

  • You want to improve your professional and personal relationships as part of personal development.

 

This qualification will not teach candidates how to be counsellors, but it will help them decide whether or not they want to train as a counsellor.

  • Establish and sustain the boundaries of the helping role.

  • Work empathically as a helper.

  • Focus on the helpee’s needs and concerns.

  • Use self awareness in helping work.

  • Use a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction.

Standard or Intensive

Our Level 2 courses include a minimum of 90 hours of teaching, tutorials, and dedicated skills practise sessions. 

New Growth

Standard Course

The standard level 2 course consists of 90 hours of teaching. Delivered over 30 sessions and lasting 3 hours each, this course suits those who are able to commit to either morning, afternoon, or evening lessons.

Green Plant

Intensive Course

The duration of the intensive course is part-time, one day per week for 18 weeks. The same 90 hours however delivered over a shorter length course that requires a full day's attendance.

Age Requirement

The Certificate in Counselling Skills is suitable for anyone who is over the age of 18 

Education

We require candidates to have a Grade C or above in Maths and English. Kindly contact us to discuss options if you don't have these qualifications. 

Interview

All candidates are required to be interview prior to be accepted on the course.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you'll have some questions as you mull over applying for the course. We've collected a few we commonly get asked. If any of these don't quite hit the mark for what you want to know, please call or email and we'll do our level best to answer any question you have.

1 / I'm not very academic.

We get it. We've been there too. Either ourselves or our colleagues have asked the question: Do I have to be academic? The answer is no, you don't need to be academic to achieve the qualification. Your tutor will help you get all the support you need to succeed. If there are additional learning needs, we will do our best to see you have those needs met. 

2 / When do your courses run?

We offer daytime and evening courses throughout the week. Typically courses run in the evening as this is an ideal time for students to attend. 

3 / How much is the course?

Our level 2 course fee covers all costs to see you qualify, including any resits for the external assessment. The course fee for 2023/24 is £1,495. 

4 / Where are the courses run?

We are based near Oxford and operate throughout Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. Since we cover Oxford, Thame, Aylesbury, and Marlow as well as Buckingham, Amersham and Milton Keynes, we run courses online. This also allows us to welcome students from all over country.

5 / Can I pay by instalments?

Yes. We are more than happy to help spread the cost of the course over a period of time. 

  • 1 x deposit of £250  to secure your place

  • 5 x monthly instalments of £249

  • Your CPCAB registration fee is included in the deposit
